Generic Name : Furosemide
TradeName : Diucontin-K, Frusenex, Lasix, Salinex
Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Furosemide, a water pill, causes the kidneys to eliminate unneeded water and salt from the body into the urine. It is used to treat high blood pressure and the swelling and water retention caused by various medical problems, including heart diseases.
When it is to be taken :
1. Furosemide is usually taken once or twice a day.
2. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully.
3. If you are to take it once a day, take it in the morning.
4. Take a second dose, if prescribed, in the late afternoon to avoid going to the bathroom during the night.
5. Furosemide begins to work about 30 minutes after it is taken and goes on working for six to eight hours.
How it should be taken :
1. Furosemide comes in the form of tablets and oral liquid.
2. Your prescription label tells you how much to take at each dose.
3. Furosemide must be taken regularly, especially to control high blood pressure.
Special Instruction :
1. keep all appointments with your doctor. Your blood pressure should be checked regularly, and blood tests may be done occassionally.
2. Do not stop taking furosemide, even if you feel well, without consulting your doctor.
3. Weigh yourself atleast once a day or once every other day. If you lose weight rapidly, contact your doctor immediately.
4. Do not start smoking while taking furosemide. Smoking can decrease its effectiveness.
5. Follow your doctor's dietary recommendations. These recommendations may include a low-sodium or low-salt diet, potassium supplements,and high-potassium foods in your diet.
Side Effects :
1. Frequent urination. This problem may last for up to eight hours after a dose.
2. Muscle cramps or weakness, thirst. Be sure that you are taking your potassium supplement correctly, if prescribed. Contact your doctor if these symptoms persist.
3. Dizziness, lightheadedness. Try rising slowly from a lying or sitting position to a standing position.
4. Blurred vision, confusion, headache, increased perspiration, restlessness. If these effects are bothersome or get worse, contact your doctor.
5. Fever, sore throat, ringing in the ears, unusual bleeding or bruising, rapid and excessive weight loss. Contact your doctor immediately.
6. Skin rash. Stop taking the medication and contact your doctor immediately.
Other Precautions :
1. If you ever had a bad reaction to furosemide or a sulfa drug, tell your doctor before taking furosemide.
2. Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, gout, or kidney or liver problems.
3.If you ae pregnant or if you get pregnant
while taking furosemide, tell your doctor.
4. Do not breeastfeed while taking this medication.
5. Some drugs may affect the way furosemide works or increase the side effects.
6. Tell your doctor what medications you are taking, especially diabetes medications, aspirin, indomethacin, lithium and steroids.
7. Before having surgery, including dental surgery
, tell the doctor about yoru blood pressure medications.
8. Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.
Storage Conditions :
Keep this medication in the container it came in, away from direct sunlight, and out of the reach of children. Store liquid furosemide in the refrigerator.

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is prescribed for short-term injection to control generalized convulsive status epilepticus and prevent and treat seizures occurring during neurosurgery. It blocks the spread of seizure activity in the brain.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Hypersensitivity to fosphenytoin, phenytoin, or other hydantoins; patients with disorders in heart rate and rhythm such as slow heart rate, sino atrial block, second- and third-degree AV block, and Adams-Stokes syndrome.
When it is to be taken : IV/IM Tonic-clonic status epilepticus As phenytoin Na equivalents (PSE): Loading dose: 15 mg PSE /kg via IV infusion. Maintenance: Initial: 4-5 mg PSE/kg/day, subsequent doses depend on patient's response and trough-plasma phenytoin levels. Seizures Except status epilepticus: As PSE: Loading dose: 10-15 mg/kg. Maintenance: Initial: 4-5 mg/kg/day; subsequent doses depend on patient's response and trough-plasma phenytoin levels
How it should be taken : It comes as an injection, to be taken by IV, IM.injection administered by your doctor or other healthcare providers.
Special Instruction :
It may cause liver or kidney damage; Caution need for elderly; patients requiring phosphate restriction; resuscitation facilities must be available. Monitor ECG, BP and respiratory function during infusion; observe patient for at least 30 minutes after infusion. IV infusion rate should not exceed 150 mg PSE/minute in adults or 3 mg PSE/kg/minute in children ≥5 yr.

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication helps to reduce high cholesterol and triglycerides in certain patients, and decreases the blockages in blood vessels. It also increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL, "good") cholesterol levels.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Caution need during pregnancy and lactation(breast feeding).
When it is to be taken : Adults PO 20 to 80 mg daily.
How it should be taken : This medication available in the form of capsule and an extended-release (long-acting) tablet to take by mouth, with or without food, once or twice a day.
Special Instruction :
*Caution should be exercised patients with history of kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid, children younger than 9 year.*4 hours time interval need in between cholestyramine (Questran) and fluvastatin.*Avoid alcohol consumption.*Do not change the dose.*do not breast-feed while you are taking this medication.

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is prescribed for pain, tenderness, swelling, and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis (arthritis caused by a breakdown of the lining of the joints) and rheumatoid arthritis (arthritis caused by swelling of the lining of the joints), inflammation of eye, dysmenorrhea. It belongs to NSAIDs. It prevents the production of irritant chemicals that causes pain, fever, and inflammation.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Peptic ulcer, GI bleeding, asthma, treatment of perioperative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft surgery, rhinitis, hypersensitivity; aspirin intolerance; pregnancy (3rd trimester); lactation.
When it is to be taken : Oral: Pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal and joint disorders 150-200 mg/day in divided doses, up to 300 mg/day in severe cases. Dysmenorrhoea( pain during menstruation). Initial: 100 mg, then 50-100 mg 4-6 hourly. Max: 300 mg/day. Sore throat Per loz contains 8.75 mg flurbiprofen: 1 loz 3-6 hrly, up to a max of 3 days. Max: 5 loz/day. Eye drops Prophylaxis of miosis during ocular surgery. Adult: As sodium: Instill 1 drop of a 0.03% solution into the eye every 30 minutes starting 2 hr before and ending not < 30 minutes before the surgery.
Ophthalmic Postoperative ocular inflammation Adult: Instill 1 drop of a 0.03% solution into the eye 4 times daily for 1-3 wk starting at 24 hr after surgery.
How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It usually is taken two to four times a day. Instill eye drops 30 min before surgery.

When it is to be taken : Fluconazole is usually taken once a day. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully. Fluconazole must be taken regularly to be effective.
How it should be taken : Fluconazole comes in the form of tablets. Your prescription label tells you how much to take at each dose.
Special Instruction :
