Generic Name : Ezetimibe

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : It is mostly used as a combination therapy to statin and dietary measuresa in hypercholesterolaemia

When it is to be taken : Take the medication orally by mouth.

How it should be taken : It comes as 10 mgs tablet.

Special Instruction :
Tell your doctor if you have complaint of liver impairement.

Side Effects :
Diarrhoea,abdominal pain.headache and rashes are the side effects of this drug.

Other Precautions :
Cvontraindicated in the case of pregnancy and it should be used with caution in case of pregnancy.

EXEMESTANE

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women who are no longer responsive to anti-estrogen therapy.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Hypersensitivity, premenopausal women, pregnancy and lactation.

When it is to be taken : 25 mg once daily by oral.

How it should be taken : This medication available in the form of tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day after a meal.

Special Instruction :
*This medication should only be used by women who have experienced menopause and cannot become pregnant. *Inform your doctor about your pregnancy and breast feeding. *It may lead to liver or kidney disease. *Monitor bone mineral density at regular intervals especially in patients at risk of osteoporosis.

Etoricoxib

Why it is prescribed
(Indications) : It is a Non Steroidal Antiinflammatory Drug(NSAID)used in treatment of Osteoarthritis,Rheumatoid arthritis and gouty arthritis.

When it is to be taken
: The dosage varies and is given once a day.

How it should be taken
: It is taken orally in the form of tablets.

Special Instruction :

The dosage is to be reduced in mild to moderate hepatic impairment.
The drug has to be stopped if gastrointestinal lesions develop.
Other drugs such as Lithium,Phenytoin,Phenindione etc may cause unpleasant side effects and some may increase risk of bleeding.So treatment must be monitored.
To be used with caution in pregnancy,hypertension,elderly people and in history of allergy and cardiac failure.

Side Effects :

Gastrointestinal disorders,hypertension

Etoposide

Generic Name : Etoposide

TradeName : Beposid, Bioposide, Eposed, Etosid, Fytosid, Laslet, Oncoside, Tevaside

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Etoposide slows or stops the growth of cancer cells in your body. In addition to etoposide, your doctor may have ordered other cancer-fighting drugs; this treatment is called combination therapy.

When it is to be taken : It is available in the form of a clear fluid. It is also available as pale pink capsules of 50mg and 100mg. The purpose of chemotherapy is to control your illness so that your own body can aid in your recovery. It is important to build up your body's defense sytem, and a balanced diet is needed to build a healthy body.

How it should be taken : Etoposide is taken orally or intravenously. Dosage has to be determined by a doctor for each person individually.

Special Instruction :
1. Some other medicines can be harmful when you are having chemotherapy. Always tell your doctor about any other medicine you are taking.
2. While etoposide is being given, it can cause pain at the place where the injection is made, or along the vein. If you feel pain, tell the doctor or nurse.
3. It is important to take your capsules at the right times. You must take them as directed by your doctor.

Side Effects :
1. Leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, inflammation of the mouth, loss of coordination of muscle movement, burning or prickling sensation on the skin, rapid heart beat, shortness of breath or wheezing, pain at site of injection, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, fatigue, and hair loss.
2. Mouth sores, ulcers, skin changes, sleeplessness,head ache and confusion are less common.

Other Precautions :

1. If your doctor decides to stop the treatment, return any remaining capsules to the pharmacist. Do not flush them down the toilet or throw them away.
2. If you are sick just after taking the capsules let your doctor know as you may need to take another one. Do not take another capsule without first informing your doctor.
3. If you forget to take a capsule do not take a double dose. Let your doctor know and keep to your regular dose schedule.

Storage Conditions :
Keep the capsules in a safe place where children cannot reach them, as etoposide could harm them

ETODOLAC

Generic Name : ETODOLAC

Why it is prescribed
(Indications) : This medication is prescribed for inflammation of joints (rheumatoid arthritis), degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis), or mild to moderate pain. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and antipyretic (fever-reducing) effects. It prevents the production of certain chemicals that cause pain and inflammation in the body.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Peptic ulcer, hypersensitivity to etodolac/NSAIDs, perioperative pain in patients who have undergone coronary artery bypass graft.

When it is to be taken
: Osteoarthritis; Rheumatoid arthritis 600-1,000 mg/day. Acute pain 200-400 mg 6-8 hrly. Max: 1 g/day.

How it should be taken : This medication is available in the form of tablet, and capsules to take by mouth with food. Take tablets and capsules two or three times per day, extended-release tablet once in a day

Special Instruction :
*Etodolac is an NSAID. Before you start any new medicine, check the label to see if it has an NSAID in it too. *Caution need for patients with history of heart diseases, dehydration, impaired kidney, liver function, asthma, nasal polyps, gastro Intestinal disease, elderly, patients receiving anticoagulant, pregnancy, breast feeding, and in children.*Serious stomach ulcers or bleeding can occur. Avoid in high doses or for a long time, smoking, or drinking alcohol they may increase the risk of these side effects.

Ethosuximide

Generic Name : Ethosuximide

TradeName :
Zarontin

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Ethosuximide acts on the brain and nervous system to contol convulsions and seizures.

When it is to be taken : Ethosuximide is taken one, two, or three times a day. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully.

How it should be taken : Ethosuximide comes in the form of capsules and syrup i.e., oral liquid. Your prescription label tells you how much to take at each dose. You may obtain a specially marked measuring spoon to be sure of an accurate dose of the syrup.

Special Instruction :
1. Ethosuximide can cause dizziness, incoordination, and drowsiness. Do not drive a car, operate dangerous machinery, or do anything that requires alertness until you know how this drug affects you.
2. Keep all appointment with your doctor and the laboratory so that your doctor can monitor your response to this drug.
3. Your dose may need to be adjusted frequently, especially when you first take ethosuximide.
4. You probably will have blood and urine tests periodically to check how this medication is affecting you.
5. Do not stop taking this medication until your doctor specifically tells you to do so. Stopping the drug abruptly can cause seizures. Your doctor probably will want to decrease your dose gradually.
6. Take ethosuximide exactly as your doctor has directed. Do not take more or less of it take it more or less often than as instructed.
7. If convulsions or seizures continue, contact your doctor.
8. Be sure that you have enough medication on hand at all times.
9. If you give this drug to a child, observe and keep a record of the child’s behaviour, moods, and seizures. Ask the child’s teacher to keep a similar record. This information can help the child’s doctor determine whether to continue the drug or to change the dose or drug.
10. If you forget to take a dose, take the missed dose a soon as you remember it and take any remaining doses for that day at evenly spaced intervals. However, if you remember a missed dose at the time you are scheduled to take the next dose, omit the missed dose completely. Do not take a double dose.

Side Effects :
1. Drowsiness, headache, tiredness, dizziness, incoordination, irritability, increased activity, hiccups, vision problems, increased hair growth, swollen gums or tongue. Contact your doctor if these effects persist or become severe.
2. Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, cramps, abdominal pain, weight loss. Take ethosuximide with food or a lot of water. If these effects perist, contact your doctor.
3. Red, itchy skin rash; sore throat; fever; bloody nose; unusal bleeding; tiny purple-colored skin spots; easy bruising; yellowing of skin and eyes and dark urine. Contact your doctor immediately.

Other Precautions :
1. Before you take ethosuximide, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or think that you may be pregnant or breast-feeding, if you have kidney or liver disease, or if you ever had a bad reaction to methosuximide.
2. Ethosuximide can affect the action of other dugs and many drugs can affect the action of ethosuximide.
3. Before you take this drug, tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking, especially other seizure medication, anticoagulants, medication for depression, and doxycycline.
4. Use caution when drinking alcoholic beverages or taking over-the-counter sleeping pills or medication for colds or allergies; these substances can add to the drowsiness caused by ethosuximide.

Storage Conditions :
Keep this medication in the container it came in ,tightly closed, and out of the reach of children. Store it at room temperature.

Ethambutol

Generic Name : Ethambutol

TradeName : Albutol, Cavibutol, Combutol, Concox, Ebutol, Ecox, Koxi, Myambutol, Mycombutol, Mycostat, Mycoxol, Themibutol, Tibitol, Tolbin-1000, Tolbin-800

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Ethambutol eliminates certain bacteria that cause tuberculosis. It is used with other drugs to treat tuberculosis and to prevent you from giving the infection to others.

When it is to be taken : Ethambutol usually is taken once a day in the morning. You will probably be taking this medication for six months to two years. Take it at the same time each day, such as when you eat breakfast, to make it easier to remember.

How it should be taken : Ethambutol comes in the form of tablets. Your prescription label tells you how much to take a teach dose.

Special Instruction :
1. Take all of the medication prescribed, even when you feel better. If you stop taking the medication abruptly, the infection can return.
2. Your doctor will want to examine your eyes every three to six months while you are taking this medication.
3. Blood, kidney, and liver tests may be done also. Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory.
4. If you forget to take a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if you remember a missed dose near the time you are to take the next one, take only the regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose.

Side Effects :
1. Blurred vision, inability to see the colours red and green, sudden changes in vision, rash, itching. Stop taking ethambutol and contact your doctor immediately.
2. Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting. These problems should go away as your body adjusts to the medication. If they get worse, contact your doctor.

Other Precautions :
1. Even though ethambutol has been used safely in pregnant women, tell your doctor if you are pregnant.
2. Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or eye defects, such as cataracts, before taking ethambutol.
3. Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.

2. Do not store the container in direct sunlight or in very hot or moist areas such as the bathroom.

Ethacrynic Acid

Generic Name : Ethacrynic Acid

TradeName
: Edecrin

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Ethacrynic acid, a water pill, causes the kidneys to eliminate unneeded water and salt from the body into the urine. It is used to treat high blood pressure and the swelling and water retention caused by various medical problems, including heart disease.

When it is to be taken :
1. Ethacrynic acid is usually taken once or twice a day.
2. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully.
3. If you are to take it once a day, take it in the morning.
4. If you are to take it twice a day, take it in the morning and in the late afternoon to avoid going to the bathroom during the night.
5. Ethacrynic acid begins to work about 30 minutes after it is taken and goes on working for six to 12 hours.

How it should be taken
: How it should be taken: This medication comes in the form of tablets. Your prescription label tells you how much to take at each dose. Take ethacrynic acid with meals or immediately after eating.

Special Instruction :
1. Keep all appointments with your doctor. Your blood pressure should be checked regularly. Blood tests also may be done, especially if your treatment lasts longer than one month.
2. Follow your doctor's dietary recommendations. You may be instructed to take a potassium supplement or to increase the amount of potassium-rich foods in your diet.
3. If you forget to take a dose, do not take a missed dose when you remember it. Omit it and take only your regular dose at the next scheduled time.

Side Effects :

1. Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach pain. Take the medication with meals or immediately after eating. If the problem continues, contact your doctor.
2. Extreme thirst, muscle cramps or weakness. Be sure that you are taking your potassium supplement correctly, if prescribed. Contact your doctor if these symptoms persist.
3. Decreased hearing, toss of balance, ringing or fullness in the ears, severe diarrhoea. Contact your doctor.
4. Chills, headache, confusion. These symptoms may decrease with time; if they get worse, contact your doctor.

Other Precautions :
1. If you have diabetes, gout, or liver problems, tell your doctor before taking ethacrynic acid.
2. Before you take ethacrynic acid, tell your doctor about any drugs you are taking, especially blood thinners, diabetes medications, heart medications, and lithium.
3. Pregnant women and breast-feeding women should not take ethacrynic acid. Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.

Eszopiclone

Generic Name : Eszopiclone

Why it is prescribed
(Indications) : Eszopiclone is used on a short-term basis to treat insomnia-to help you fall asleep and stay asleep through the night. Eszopiclone is in a class of medications called hypnotics. It works by slowing activity in the brain.

When it is to be taken
: Eszopiclone is taken at bedtime when needed. Plan to go to bed right after you take Eszopiclone, and to stay in bed for at least 8 hours. If you do not go to bed right after you take Eszopiclone or if you get up too soon after taking Eszopiclone, you may experience dizziness, lightheadedness, hallucinations and problems with coordination and memory.

How it should be taken : Eszopiclone comes as a tablet to be taken by mouth. It is usually taken once a day at bedtime. Swallow the tablets whole; do not split, chew, or crush them. Do not take Eszopiclone with or after a heavy, high-fat meal. Eszopiclone may not work well if it is taken with high fat foods. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully. Do not take Eszopiclone for more than 1-2 weeks without consulting your doctor.

Special Instruction
:
Eszopiclone may make you dizzy. Therefore stay in bed after taking the drug. The dizziness may persist until the next day, and your coordination and alertness may be decreased. Do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery until you know how this drug affects you.
2. Since Eszopiclone can be habit-forming, do not take more of it or take it for a longer period than prescribed.
3. To prevent an accidental overdose, do not keep more than one dose at your bedside. If you accidentally take too much Eszopiclone, contact your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
4. If you have been taking Eszopiclone for a long time, you may have withdrawal symptoms when you stop. You may have more difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep than you did before you took the medication. These sleep problems are normal and usually get better without treatment after one or two nights.

Side Effects :

1. Eszopiclone may cause side effects like drowsiness, headache, dizziness, cold like symptoms, painful menstruation (periods), breast enlargement in males, decreased sexual desire, daytime drowsiness and loss of coordination. It can also cause gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting and heartburn. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away.
2. Eszopiclone may cause other side effects like rash, itching, chest pain, swelling of the hands and feet, painful or frequent urination, bloody or cloudy urine, and back pain. If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor immediately.

Other Precautions :

1. Tell your doctor if you have ever had any medical conditions like depression, mental illness, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, a group of diseases that affect the lungs and airways), or any other conditions that affects your breathing, or liver disease
2. Do not take other sleeping pills while taking Eszopiclone. Do not drink alcoholic beverages. Alcohol adds to the drowsiness and dizziness caused by this drug.
3. Before you take this drug, tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking. Be sure to inform your doctor if you are taking amiodarone,; antidepressants; antifungals such as fluconazole, itraconazole and ketoconazole (Nizoral); antihistamines; carbamazepine (Tegretol); cimetidine clarithromycin ; cyclosporine; danazol; delavirdine; dexamethasone (Decadron); diltiazem; ethosuximide; erythromycin; fluoxetine; fluvoxamine; HIV protease inhibitors such as indinavir, nelfinavir, and ritonavir; isoniazid; medications for anxiety, mental illness, or seizures; metronidazole (Flagyl); nefazodone; olanzapine; oral contraceptives (birth control pills); phenobarbital; phenytoin; rifabutin; rifampin; sedatives; sleeping pills; tranquilizers; troglitazone; troleandomycin; verapamil ; and zafirlukast. Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects.
4. Women who are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, think they may be pregnant, or are breast-feeding should tell their doctors. If you become pregnant, while taking the medication contact your doctor immediately.
5. You should know that your mental health may change in unexpected ways while you are taking this medication. Tell your doctor right away if you experience any of the following symptoms: aggressiveness, strange or unusually outgoing behavior, hallucinations, feeling as if you are outside of your body, memory problems and depression.
6. Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.

Estrogen and Progestin - Oral Contraceptives

Generic Name : Estrogen and Progestin - Oral Contraceptives

TradeName : Norethindrone, Norethynodrel, Ethynodiol diacetate, Loestrin, Micronor

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Estrogen and progestin are two female sex hormones. Various combinations of these hormones are referred to as oral contraceptives or birth-control pills. They prevent the release of eggs from your ovaries and thus prevent pregnancy. Birth-control pills are more effective than any other method of contraception.

When it is to be taken :
1. Birth-control pills come in the form of packets of 21 or 28 tablets. They are taken orally once a day.
2. Get in the habit of taking your tablet at the same time every day (e.g., after dinner or at bedtime). This routine may help you remember to take your tablet regularly and prevent pregnancy.
3. Follow the instructions that come with the tablets concerning when to take your first tablet (on the first or fifth day of your menstrual periods or on the first Sunday after or on which bleeding begins).
4. If you have tablets of more than once color, be sure to take them in the proper sequence. Different colored tablets contain different ingredient and are not interchangeable.
5. In the 28-tablet packet, the last seven tablets are a different color. These tablets are not birth-controls pills; they contain either iron (ferrous fumarate) or an inactive ingredient.
6. If you have a 21-tablet packet, take one tablet daily for 21 days and then none for seven days. Then start a new packet.
7. If you have a 28-tablet packet, take one tablet daily for 28 days. Start your next packet on the next day. You should take one tablet daily continuously, starting a new packet the day after taking your 28th tablet.

Special Instruction :
1. During the first two weeks (of your first packet) that you take birth-control pills, use another method of birth control.
2. If you miss one tablet, take it as soon as you remember and take the next one at the regular time, even tough you may be taking two tablets in one day.
3. If your miss two tablets, take two tablets daily for the net two days. Whenever one or two doses are missed, use another method of birth control for the remainder of the packet.
4. If you miss three tablets, do not take them when you remember. Throw away any tablets remaining in the packet and start a new packet of tablets on the seventh or eighth day after you took your last tablet, even if you are still bleeding or have not had your period. Use another method of birth control until you have taken one tablets each day for 14 consecutive days from the new packet.

Side Effects :
1. Spotting or bleeding between menstrual periods, painful periods, changes in menstrual flow. If bleeding lasts for more than one week or if these problems continue after your fourth packet, consult your doctor. Your medication may need to be changed.
2. Breast tenderness, enlargement, and secretion; changes in appetite; weight gain or loss; nausea; bloating; acne; brown-colored skin spots; headache; irritability; fatigue; anxiety; dizziness; nervousness. Contact your doctor if these effects are severe or continue after your fourth packet, consult your doctor. Your medication may need to be changed.
3. Take the medication with or after your evening meal or at bedtime if you experience nausea.

Other Precautions :
1. Before you take this medication, tell your doctor your entire medical history, including family medical history, especially if you have asthma; high blood pressure; kidney, liver, or heart disease; or a history of jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes) or high blood pressure during pregnancy, excessive weight gain or fluid retention during your menstrual cycle, strokes, blood clots, heart attacks, seizures, migraine headaches, breast cancer, high blood level of cholesterol or lipids, or mental depression.
2. Before you start to take birth-control pills, tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding or if you think that you may be pregnant.
3. Birth-control pills can harm a developing baby.
4. If you miss one menstrual period and have taken your tablets as directed, continue taking them. However, if you miss one period and have not taken your tablets as directed or if you miss two menstrual periods and have taken the tablets as directed, notify your doctor and use another method of birth control until you have a pregnancy test.
5. If you wish to stop taking birth-control pills and become pregnant, use another method of birth control for at least three months to be sure that the medication will not harm the baby.
6. It may take a long time for you to become pregnant after you stop taking birth-control pills, especially if you have never had a baby or if you had irregular, infrequent, or complete absence of menstrual periods before taking birth-control pills.
7. This problem does not seem to be related to the duration of use of birth-control pills. Discuss this problem with your doctor.
8. Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. You should have a complete physical examination, including blood pressure measurements, breast and pelvic examinations, and Pap test for vaginal cancer, at least once a year.
9. Follow your doctor's instructions for examining your own breasts, and report any lumps immediately.
10. Tell your doctor what prescription and non prescription drugs you are taking. Birth control pills can affect the action of many drugs, and certain drugs may decrease the effectiveness of birth-control pills. Before you take other drugs, ask your doctor if you should use another method of birth control.
11. Do not smoke cigarettes. Birth-control pills slightly increase your risk of strokes, blood clots, high blood pressure, heart attacks, gallbladder disease, vision problems, and liver tumors. Cigarette smoking and age (women older than 35 or 40 years of age) further increase the risk of stroke, blood clots, high blood pressure, and heart attacks.
12. Ask your doctor for a copy of the patient labeling which explains these risks in more detail.
13. If you are near-sighted or wear contact lenses, you may develop vision problems. Also, your tolerance of the lenses may decrease. Contact your eye doctor if these problems occur.
14. Before having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor that you take birth-control pills.
15. Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.

Why it is prescribed (Indications) :
1. Estrogen is a hormone, a substance produced by the body. It is needed for normal growth and development of female sex organs and for natural functions such as bearing children.
2. Estrogen is used to relieve feelings of warmth in the face, neck, and chest; hot flashes; and sweating that occur during menopause.
3. It is also used for conditions caused by insufficient estrogen, including dry, itchy external genitals and vaginal irritation.
4. It also is prescribed for young women who do not mature physically at the usual rate and for breast and prostate cancer.
5. Estrogen also is used with diet, calcium supplements, and exercise to slow the progression of osteoporosis, a disease resulting in bones that break easily.

When it is to be taken :
1. Estrogen usually is taken on a cyclical basis; once a day for 21 days and then none for seven days; then the cycle is repeated.
2. However, for cancer it usually is taken three times a day continuously for at least three months.
3. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully.

How it should be taken : Estrogem comes in the form of tablets, skin patches, and vaginal cream. Your prescription label tells you how much to take at each dose. Skin patches usually are applied twice weekly for three weeks (on the same two days each week), followed by one week w

Special Instruction :
1. Keep all appointments for checkups so that your doctor can evaluate your response to the drug. You should have a complete physical examination annually.
2. If you forget to apply a skin patch, apply it as soon as you remember; note the date on the package, and adjust your schedule. If you miss a dose of tablets or vaginal cream, take it a s soon as you remember. However, if your remember a missed dose near the time you are scheduled to take the next dose, take only the regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose.

Side Effects :
1. Nausea, vomiting, cramps, bloating, diarrhoea, appetite and weight changes. Eat a light snack if your experience nausea. If these effects persist or become severe, contact your doctor.
2. Brown or black skin patches; swelling of hands, feet, or lower legs; bleeding or spotting between menstrual periods; changes in menstrual flow; painful or missed menstrual spotting between menstrual periods; changes in menstrual flow; painful or missed menstrual periods; breast tenderness, enlargement, or secretion; intolerance to contact lenses. Contact your doctor if these effects are bothersome.
3. Skin redness and irritation from skin patches. Use a different site for each application.
4. Severe headache or vomiting; vision or speech problems; sudden partial or complete loss of vision; dizziness pain, yellowing of skin or eyes, itching, and loss of appetite; severe mental depression; unusual bleeding. Contact your doctor immediately.

Other Precautions :
1. Before you take estrogen, tell your doctor your entire medical history, including family medical history, specially breast lumps or cancer; high blood pressure; diabetes; asthma; epileptic seizures; migraine headaches; liver, heart, or kidney disease; mental depression; high blood pressure during pregnancy; jaundice; excessive weight gain and fluid retention during the menstrual cycle.

7. If you become pregnant while taking estrogen, stop taking it and contact your doctor promptly.
8. Do not smoke while taking estrogen. Smoking can decrease its effectiveness. 9. Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.

Why it is prescribed
(Indications) : Treating conditions due to menopause, treating vulval or vaginal atrophy, prostate cancer, and preventing osteoporosis (brittle bones). It is also used for estrogen replacement therapy after failure of the ovaries and to relieve the symptoms of breast cancer.

When it is not to be taken
(Contraindications) : Hypersensitivity; undiagnosed vaginal bleeding; clot in blood vessels; breast cancer, estrogen-dependent tumor; disorders of certain enzymes; pregnancy.

When it is to be taken :
Oral: Prostate cancer 10 mg 3 times/day for at least 3 month. Menopausal vasomotor symptoms 1 to 2 mg/day on a cyclical or continuous regimen. IM 1.5 to 2 mg at monthly intervals.

How it should be taken : Injection –Intramuscular. Take this medication by mouth (orally) with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation. It comes also as a gel and an emulsion to apply to the skin. It is usually applied once a day.

Special Instruction :

*Conditions that become more severe with estrogen include fluid retention; increase in calcium level, poor blood flow to the brain, coronary artery disease, gall bladder diseases; lipid effects; familial defects of lipoprotein metabolism. *May increase blood pressure, risk of blood clot in the vein, breast cancer, benign tumor of the liver, endometrial cancer and size of preexisting uterine fibroid. *Dosage should be reduced in liver problem and during breast feeding. *It should not be used in children

Why it is prescribed
(Indications) : This medication is prescribed for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). With amoxicillin and clarithromycin it is used for treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection and duodenal ulcer. It is also used to aid in reduction in occurrence of gastric ulcers associated with continuous NSAID therapy, and in Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It blocks the production of acid by the stomach.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Hypersensitivity along with atazanavir

When it is to be taken
: GERD: 20 or 40 mg is given once daily for 4-8 weeks. In children ages 1-11, the dose is 10 or 20 mg daily. H. pylori: 40 mg is administered once daily in combination with amoxicillin and clarithromycin for 10 days. NSAID-induced ulcers is 20 to 40 mg daily for 6 months. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is treated with 40 mg twice daily.

How it should be taken
: It comes as a delayed-release (long-acting) capsule to take by mouth or to open, mix with water, and gives through a feeding tube and as granules to mix with water and take by mouth or give through a feeding tube. It is usually taken once a day at least 1 hour before a meal.

Special Instruction :
*Caution needed for Pediatric, pregnancy, lactation. *It may cause malignancy and liver impairment. *While taking this medication, there is increased risk of developing certain infections such as community-acquired pneumonia.

Side Effects :
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM- Headache, dizziness, somnolence, aggression, agitation, depression, hallucination.
SKIN- Itching, hair loss, severe allergic reactions, photosensitivity, blistering.
EYE AND ENT- Blurred vision.

GENITOURINARY- Breast enlargement in men, kidney disorder.
LIVER- Occurrence of confusion, altered level of consciousness and coma as a result of liver failure(Hepatic encephalopathy) , liver failure, inflammation of liver with or without jaundice.
BLOOD- Decrease in white blood cells.
LOCAL- Injection-site reactions including mild local redness and itching with IV administration.
MUSCULOSKELETAL- Muscular weakness, muscle pain.
RESPIRATORY- Asthma, respiratory tract infection.
MISCELLANEOUS- Severe allergic reaction/shock.

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is prescribed for depression and generalized anxiety disorder that is excessive worry and tension that disrupts daily life and lasts for 6 months or longer. It increases the amount of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Concomitant use with or within 2 wk of MAOI (Monoamine oxidase inhibitors) withdrawal along with pimozide, hypersensitivity to escitalopram or citalopram.

When it is to be taken : Oral DepressionObsessive compulsive disorder(persistent obsessions or compulsions) AnxietyPanic disorder(significant behavioral change) Adult: 10 mg once daily, increased if necessary. *Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medication. *It may increase risk of suicidal thoughts or action in children, teenagers, and young adults. So closely watch patients who are taking this medication. *Escitalopram and a medicine called citalopram have the same active ingredient. Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Erythromycin, an antibiotic, and sulfisoxazole, a sulfa drug, are used in combination to eliminate bacteria that cause ear infections, usually in children.

When it is to be taken :

1. This drug is usually taken every six hours for 10 days.
2. Follow the instructions on the prescription label carefully.
3. Doses of this medication should be taken at intervals as far apart as possible throughout the day. For example, if the doctor tells you to give this medication four times a day, it is best to give a dose every six hours. However, if it is not possible to give the drug around the clock, give it at evenly spaced intervals between the time the patient wakes up in the morning and the time her or she goes to bed at night (e.g., at 7 a.m., noon, 5 p.m., and 10 p.m.).

How it should be taken
: This medication comes in the liquid form to be taken by mouth. Shake the bottle well before each use to mix the medication evenly. You may obtain a specially marked measuring spoon to be sure of an accurate dose. Give a full glass of water after each dose

Special Instruction :
1. The patient should drink large quantities of water or other liquids every day.
2. Do not give this medication at the same time, or immediately after, carbonated beverages, fruit juices, or tea. The acids in these drinks may affect the way it works.
3. Give all of the medication prescribed, even after the infection appears to have gone away.
4. Failure to do so could allow the infection to return. Do not stop this medication unless the doctor tells you to do so.
5. If the patient will be outside for long periods, use protective clothing and a sunscreen to protect the skin from sunlight.
6. Keep all appointments with the doctor while giving this drug so the response can be evaluated.
7. If you forget to take a dose, give the missed dose as soon as you remember it, even if you have to double the next dose. Give any remaining doses for that day at evenly spaced intervals.

1. Skin rash, skin changes, sore throat. Stop giving the medication and contact the doctor.
2. Stomach upset. Give the medication with crackers or a light snack. If stomach upsets continue, contact the doctor.

1. Erythromycin is usually taken three or four times a day for seven to 14 days.
2. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully.
3. The doses should be taken at intervals as far apart as possible throughout the day. For example, if your doctor tells you to take this drug four times a day, take a dose every six hours. 3. If you take large doses of this medication for a long time, you may have a severe headache for a few days after stopping the drug. If the headache lasts for more than a few days, contact your doctor.

When it is to be taken : Adults: 1 to 2 milligrams (mg) three times a day.

How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth or dissolve under the tongue and a liquid to take by mouth. It is usually taken three times a day. Take it with food or milk to prevent stomach upset.
