Generic Name : Voriconazole

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Voriconazole is used in fungal infections caused by yeast or other types of fungus. Voriconazole blocks fungal cell wall growth, resulting in the death of the fungus.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Avoid voriconazole • If you are allergic to any ingredient in Voriconazole • If you have galactose intolerance.
When it is to be taken : Take pill as prescribed by doctor. Do not take the tablets in larger amounts.
Missed a Dose? :
If you miss a dose of Voriconazole, take it immediately. If it is time for your next dose, take your regular dose without fail.
How it should be taken : • Voriconazole should be taken by mouth on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before eating. • Voriconazole should be taken for the full course of treatment. Even if you feel better in a few days take the full course of treatment.
Special Instruction :
• Voriconazole can cause blurred vision
or high sensitivity to light. • Voriconazole can make your eyes more sensitive to sunlight. • Women of childbearing age should use an effective form of contraception while taking Voriconazole.
Side Effects :
Get your doctor advice if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction like sudden behavior changes, problems with thinking or speech, stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice, urinating less than usual or not at all, fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; or uneven heart rate, chest pain, general ill feeling.
Drug Interactions :
Avoid taking voricanazole if you are taking any of the following drugs like quinidine, sirolimus, carbamazepine, cisapride, pimozide, Phenobarbital, ritonavir , efavirenz, rifabutinor, rifampicin.
Storage Conditions :
Voriconazole should be stored at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C).

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Vincristine is chemotherapy that is given as a treatment for some types of cancer. Vincristine is used to treat Kaposi's sarcoma (a type of cancer) and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Kaposi's sarcoma has become the fourth most common AIDS-defining illness. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas are a category of cancers that have become increasingly common in people with AIDS.
When it is to be taken : Vincristine is given intravenously. Each single dose is given intravenously over 1 minute. It looks like a clear fluid after being dissolved from powder.
How it should be taken : Vincristine is one of the older chemotherapy drugs which has been around for many years. When prepared for use, it becomes a clear and colorless liquid and is given by intravenous route only. It is most commonly used in treatment of the following cancers.
Special Instruction :
1. Increased fluid and fiber intake and increased exercise may minimize constipation.
2. Tell your doctor about any pain, difficulty walking, persistent constipation or abnormal sensation such as burning or prickling on the skin.

Other Precautions :
1. If vincristine leaks into the tissue around the vein it can damage the tissue in that area. If you notice any stinging or burning around the vein while the drug is being given, or any leakage of fluid from the cannula site it is very important that you tell the doctor or nurse.
2. If the area around the injection site becomes red or swollen at any time you should either tell the doctor or nurse on the ward, or if you are at home, ring the clinic or ward and ask to speak to the doctor or nurse.
Storage Conditions :
1. Refrigerate infusion device. Warm to room temperature before infusing.
2. Check expiration date.

It is used to treat certain kinds of cancer, including lymphoma and cancer of the breast or testicles, as well as some noncancerous conditions.
When it is to be taken : Vinblastine interferes with the growth of cancer cells, which are eventually destroyed. The purpose of chemotherapy is to control your illness so that your own body can aid in your recovery. It is important to build up your body’s defense system, and a balanced diet is needed to build a healthy body. Ask your doctor for advice on your diet.
How it should be taken : Vinblastine is to be administered only by or under the immediate supervision of your doctor. It is available in the form of parenteral injection. The dose of vinblastine will be different for different patients. The dose that is used may depend on a numbe
Special Instruction :
1. Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to vinblastine.
2. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or if you intend to have children. This medicine may cause birth defects if either the male or female is taking it at the time of conception or if it is taken during pregnancy
. In addition, many cancer medicines may cause sterility which could be permanent. Although sterility has not been reported with this medicine, vinblastine may interfere with production of sperm and the possibility should be kept in mind.
3. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding or if you intend to breast-feed during treatment with this medicine. Because vinblastine may cause serious side effects, breast-feeding is generally not recommended while you are receiving it.
Side Effects :
1. Vinblastine can sometimes cause unwanted effects such as blood problems, loss of hair, and other side effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

3. If you can, avoid people with infections. Check with your doctor immediately if you think you are getting an infection or if you get a fever or chills, cough or hoarseness, lower back or side pain, or painful or difficult urination.
4. Check with your doctor immediately if you notice any unusual bleeding or bruising; black, tarry stools; blood in urine or stools; or pinpoint red spots on your skin.
5. Be careful when using a regular toothbrush, dental floss, or toothpick. Your medical doctor, dentist, or nurse may recommend other ways to clean your teeth and gums. Check with your medical doctor before having any dental work done.
6. Do not touch your eyes or the inside of your nose unless you have just washed your hands and have not touched anything else in the meantime.
7. Be careful not to cut yourself when you are using sharp objects such as a safety razor or fingernail or toenail cutters.
8. Avoid contact sports or other situations where bruising or injury could occur.
Storage Conditions :
Refrigerate between 36 and 46 F (between 2.2 and 7.8 degrees C). This drug may be stored for 30 days after the first withdrawal.

TradeName : Trinicalm, Vasopten
Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Verapamil is used to control irregular heartbeats, to control or relieve heart pain i.e., angina pectoris, and to lower blood pressure.
When it is to be taken : Verapamil usually is taken every six or eight hours or once a day. Follow the instructions on your prescription label, and ask your doctor to explain any part that you do not understand. Verapamil must be taken regularly to be effective. Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor.
How it should be taken : Verapamil comes in the form of regular tablets and sustained-release (long-acting) tablets. Your prescription label tells you how much to take at each dose.
Special Instruction :
1. Your doctor may ask you to check your heart rate daily while taking this medication and will tell you how fast it should be. Ask your doctor to teach you how to check your pulse. If your pulse is slower than it should be, contact your doctor about taking verapamil that day.
2. Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory so that your doctor can determine your response to the medication and adjust your dosage if necessary. You may have electrocardiogram and liver function tests periodically.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Children less than 18 yr, during pregnancy andlactation. It my cause uncontrolled hypertension; high risk of serious ventricular arrhythmia.
When it is to be taken : For depression initial: 75 mg/day in 2-3 divided doses, increase slowly if needed. Max: 375 mg/day. For anxiety Extended release Initial: 75 mg once daily, may increase slowly if needed. Max: 225 mg/day. For panic disorder 37.5 mg once daily for 1st 7 days, may increase slowly if needed. Max: 225 mg/day.
How it should be taken : This medication available in the form of tablet or extended-release capsule to take by mouth. Take tablet 2times/day.and extended-release capsule once daily in the morning or evening with food.
Special Instruction :
It may cause moderate to severe liver or kidney problems. Conditions which may be worsened by increase in heart rate. • Caution should be exercised in patients with history of heart attack, bleeding disorder, epilepsy, hypomania or mania, elderly, pregnancy. • Monitor BP, serum cholesterol regularly. • Monitor closely during early therapy until depression improves due to increased risk of suicide. • Discontinue if seizure develops or increase in seizure frequency.

When it is to be taken : It is used to antagonizes the effect of angiotensin II by blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT 1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland, producing decreased BP.
Missed a Dose? :
Take the missed dose at the earliest and if it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the regular dose at scheduled time. Don’t take extra medication to make up the missed dose.
