Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is prescribed for symptoms of declined mental capacity (dementia) and age-related cognitive impairment (such as in Alzheimer disease), in certain patients older than 60 years of age.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Hypersensitivity, acute or chronic psychosis.
When it is to be taken : Adults: 1 to 2 milligrams (mg) three times a day.
How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth or dissolve under the tongue and a liquid to take by mouth. It is usually taken three times a day. Take it with food or milk to prevent stomach upset.
Special Instruction :
Caution should be exercised in patients with history of mental illness, heart disease, during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
Side Effects :
HEART-Sudden fall in blood pressure in standing position; slow heart rate.
SKIN- Rash, flushing of the skin
GI- Abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, GI disturbances; irritation under the tongue.
EYE AND ENT- Blurred vision, nasal congestion.
Other Precautions :
Do not stop taking this medication without first checking with your doctor.
Storage Conditions :
Oral: Store below 25°C. Store it at room temperature and in airtight container. Keep away from children.
