FLUVASTATIN

Generic Name : FLUVASTATIN

TradeName : Lescol

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication helps to reduce high cholesterol and triglycerides in certain patients, and decreases the blockages in blood vessels. It also increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL, "good") cholesterol levels.

When it is not to be taken
(Contraindications) : Caution need during pregnancy and lactation(breast feeding).

When it is to be taken :
Adults PO 20 to 80 mg daily.

How it should be taken : This medication available in the form of capsule and an extended-release (long-acting) tablet to take by mouth, with or without food, once or twice a day.

Special Instruction :
*Caution should be exercised patients with history of kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid, children younger than 9 year.*4 hours time interval need in between cholestyramine (Questran) and fluvastatin.*Avoid alcohol consumption.*Do not change the dose.*do not breast-feed while you are taking this medication.

Side Effects :
HEART:
Tightness in the chest, chest pain, difficulty breathing.
GI
Nausea, sore throat, pale stools, heartburn.
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM:
Headache, mental or mood changes.
MUSCLE AND BONE:
Joint pain; muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness.
SKIN
rash; hives; itching, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue, red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin, numbness or tingling of the skin, arm, or leg.
RESPIRATORY:
Sinus pain, cough
GENITOURINARY:
Change in the amount of urine produced; dark urine, painful or frequent urination.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Fever, chills, flu-like symptoms.

Other Precautions :
Serum cholesterol and triglycerides should be measured before therapy.

Storage Conditions :
Store at 25°C. Store it in air tight container and keep away from children.
