Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication prescribed for conjunctivitis with symptoms of redness (mainly due to vasodilation of the peripheral small blood vessels), swelling of the conjunctiva, itching and increased production of tears.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Narrow-angle glaucoma
When it is to be taken : Ophth Conjunctival decongestant As 0.1% soln: Instill 1-2 drops 3-4 hrly as needed Adult: 1-2 drops of 0.1% solution to the conjunctiva every 3-4 hr as needed.
How it should be taken : This medication available in the form of eye drop. It is usually applied to the affected eye(s) twice a day, around 6 to 8 hours apart.
Special Instruction :
:*Remove contact lenses before applying naphazoline ophthalmic.*Caution should also be exercised in patients with history of chronic asthma, hypertension, heart failure, coronary artery disease, cerebral arteriosclerosis, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, local infection or injury, prostate enlargement , and in pregnant women
Side Effects :
CVS: Heart abnormalities, hypertension; reduced body temperature. CNS: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nervousness, discomfort. GI: Nausea. Ophthalmic: Blurred vision, increased eye pressure, irritation, increases tears, dilation of pupil, painful eyes. Respiratory: Transient stinging, nasal mucosa irritation, dryness, rebound congestion sneezing Miscellaneous: Excessive sweating weakness;, redness. Metabolic: Increase in blood glucose.
Other Precautions :
Avoid using adequately.
Storage Conditions :
Eye Drops: Store at 25°C. c
