Why it is prescribed (Indications) : It is a synthetic human growth hormone

When it is to be taken : Growth disturbances caused by insufficeint secretion of endogenous growth hormone or by gonadal dysgenesis

How it should be taken : Individual:, generally 0.1 I.u.kg body weight per day (or higher doses as judged) div into 6-7 subcutaneous injection recommended.Turners syndrome: 0.14 I.u.kg body weight / day.

Special Instruction :
Evidence of tumor activity(complete antitumor therapy and ensure intracranial lesions inactive before starting); not to be used after renal transplantation or for growth promotion in children with closed epiphyses.

Side Effects :
Funduscopy for papilloedema recommended if severe or recurrent headache, visual problems, nausea and vomititing occur- If papilloedema confirmed, consider benign intracranial hypertension (rare case reported); fluid retention (peripheral oedema, arthralgia, myalgia),antibody formation, hypothyroidism, transient reactions at injection site; leukaemia in children with growth hormone deficiency also reported.

Other Precautions :
Diabetes mellitus (adjustment of antidiabetic therapy may be necessary), papilloedema, relative deficiencies of other pituitary hormones (notably hypothyroidism-periodic thyroid function tests recommended), history of malignant disease, slipped epiphysis of the hip ( monitor for limping), resolved intracranial hypertension (monitor closely).Pregnancy: Better avoided

Storage Conditions :
Unreconstituted formm of the drug should be refrigerated at 36° to 46° F. After reconstitution, the product is stable for 14 days refrigerated or for 24 hours at room temperature.
