Generic Name : Lindane
TradeName : GAB, Gamaderm, Gammexane, Lorexane.
Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Lindane kills parasites and their eggs. It is used to treat scabies (a skin infestation) and lice infestations of the head and body. Lindane does not prevent these infestations.
When it is to be taken : Usually, one application of Lindane completely eliminates the parasites. However, the treatment may need to be repeated after one week; contact your doctor if signs of infestation reappear.
How it should be taken : Lindane comes in thef orm of lotion, cream, and shampoo. Do not swallow it. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully. To use the cream or lotion, follow these steps:
1. If you have crusted sores, first bathe with soap and lukew
Special Instruction :
1. After using Lindane, machine-wash or dry clean all clothing, bed linen, and towels that you have used in the last two days. Use hot water. Dry everything in a hot dryer for at least 20 minutes.
2. Thoroughly clean all bathtubs, showers, and toilets in your home with rubbing alcohol.
3. Use Lindane only as directed by your doctor. Do not use more of it and do not use it more often than your doctor has instructed.
4. You may have transmitted the parasites to family members and close contacts; advise them to see a doctor if they develop symptoms of infestation.
5. If you have scabies and your skin has become sensitive to the parasite, itching may persist for several weeks after the treatment. However, this itching does not mean that treatment was a failure. Contact your doctor if you have questions.
Side Effects :
Skin irritation or rash. If these effects do not disappear within a day or two, contact your doctor.
Other Precautions :
1. Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding or if you ever had a bad reaction to Lindane.
2. If you are pregnant, wear gloves when applying Lindane to another person to prevent its absorption through your skin.
3. Do not let Lindane touch your face, eyes, inflamed or raw skin, or open cuts.
4. Wear rubber gloves when applying Lindane if you have open cuts or scratches on your hands.
5. If it accidentally gets in your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with water for at least five minutes.
6. If this medication is accidentally swallowed, call a poison-control center.
7. Do not use other skin preparations such as creams, ointments, lotions, and oils along with Lindane.
8. If a doctor directs you to apply Lindane to a small child, be careful to prevent the child from getting and drug in the mouth, as by thumb-sucking.
9. Do not allow anyone else to use this medication.
Storage Conditions :
Keep this medication out of the reach of children. Store it at room temperature
