Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is prescribed for type 2 diabetes condition, in which the body does not use insulin normally. It regulates the amount of glucose in blood by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Diabetic ketoacidosis; severe liver impairment, type 1 diabetes; hypersensitivity, lactation, along with gemfibrosil.

When it is to be taken : Oral: Initial: 0.5 mg before main meals. We may adjust dose 1 to 2 mg weekly, up to 4 mg/dose. Max: 16 mg/day.

How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth. The tablets are taken before meals, any time from 30 minutes before a meal to just before the meal.

Special Instruction :
*Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication. *Follow the diet and exercise program given to you by your health care provider. *Caution needed for patients with history of heart attack, liver or kidney diseases, diabetes, coma, trauma during surgery, elderly, malnourished and debilitated patients. *It may harmful to pregnancy.

Side Effects :
METABOLIC-NUTRITIONAL- Low blood sugar (these may include cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor, anxious feeling, unusual tiredness or weakness, confusion, difficulty in concentration, excessive hunger, temporary vision changes, headache or nausea).
HEART- Serious heart problems and death.
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM- Headache
SKIN- Hair loss, severe allergic reactions.
EYE AND ENT- Stuffy nose.
GI- Diarrhea, nausea, constipation, vomiting, tooth disorder, inflammation of pancreas.
GENITOURINARY- Urinary tract infection.
BLOOD-LYMPHATIC- Decrease in hemoglobin, platelets.
LIVER- Severe liver dysfunction.
MUSCULOSKELETAL- Muscle pain, back pain.
RESPIRATORY- Upper respiratory tract infection, inflammation of para-nasal sinuses and bronchus.
MISCELLANEOUS- Chest pain, tingling, allergy.

Other Precautions :
*Do not change the dose of your medicine without checking with your doctor.

Storage Conditions :
Oral: Store below 25°C. Protect from moisture.
