TradeName : Xylocaine,Xylocard,,Lignolac,Lignex,Lox
Why it is prescribed (Indications) : It is a local anaesthetic used during surgical procedures as epidural and intraspinal anaesthesia.It is also used for anaesthesia of skin and mucous membranes.
When it is to be taken : It is administered during the procedure for which local anaesthesia is required.
How it should be taken : The drug is available as injections which can be given in intravenous,cutaneous,epidural or intraspinal routes.Creams and sprays are also available.The cream is to be applied under a dressing.
Special Instruction :
To be used with caution in the foll:
1.Elderly or weak people.
2.In hepatic or respiratory impairment.
3.During pregnancy and lactation.
4.If other medication is being taken the doctor must be informed as Lidocaine interferes with barbiturates,Cimetidine and Propranolol with toxic effects.
5.It interferes with lab test results.
Side Effects :
Dizziness,drowsiness,vomiting,blurred vision and slurred speech. In rhe case of eye drops or ointment corneal damage can occur.
Other Precautions :
Contraindicated in hypersensitivity and heart block.
Storage Conditions :
To be stored in a cool dark place.
