Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Famotidine decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. The drug is used to treat and prevent the recurrence of some gastrointestinal ulcers and to treat other conditions where the stomach produces too much acid.

When it is to be taken :
1. Famotidine is usually taken once daily at bedtime or twice a day.
2. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully.
3. Most ulcers heal within four weeks, but you may need to take famotidine for up to eight weeks before complete healing occurs. Longer treatment may be required for other conditions.
4. Do not stop taking famotidine without consulting your doctor.

How it should be taken : Famotidine comes in the form of tablets and oral liquid. You prescription label tells you how much medication to take at each dose. Shake the bottle vigorously before each use. Famotidine may be taken with food. If your doctor instruct you to take antacid

Special Instruction :
1. Your doctor will want to check your response to this medication. Keep all appointments with your doctor.
2.If you forget to take a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, it is almost time for the next dose, take only the scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose.

Side Effects :
Although side effects from famotidine are not common, they can occur. Headache, dizziness, constipation, diarrhes. If these effects persist or become severe, contact your doctor.

Other Precautions :
Tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking. Before taking famotidine, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Storage Conditions :
1. Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of the reach of children.
2. The liquid may be refrigerated, but do not allow it to freeze.
