Generic Name : Clioquinol

TradeName : Vioform, Iodochlorhydroxyquin

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Clioquinol, an antifungal agent, is used for skin infections such as athlete's foot, jock itch and ringworm.

When it is to be taken : Clioquinol is usually used two or three times a day for four weeks. It must be used regularly to be effective. Follow the instructions on the package carefully.

How it should be taken : Clioquinol comes in the form of cream and ointment to be applied topically on to the skin. Thoroughly clean the infected area and then gently rub the medication in until most of it disappears. Use just enough medication to cover the affected area.

Special Instruction :
1. Do not let clioquinol get into your eyes and do not swallow it.
2. Do not apply cosmetics, lotions or other skin preparations to the area being treated unless a doctor instructs you to do otherwise.
3. If you forget to take a dose, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Apply any remaining doses for that day at evenly spaced intervals.

Side Effects :
When used as directed, clioquinol is virtually free of side effects.

If the infection persists or worsens, consult a doctor.

Storage Conditions :
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of the reach of children. Protect it from light and store it at room temperature. Do not allow it to freeze.
