Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is used for lowering high cholesterol and triglycerides in certain patients with appropriate diet. It reduces the risk of cardio vascular diseases, and blood vessels blockage.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Acute liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases. Caution need during pregnancy, lactation.

When it is to be taken : Hyperlipidaemias Adult: Initially, 10-20 mg/day, to be taken in the evening. May start with 40 mg once daily in patients with high CV risk or require a large reduction in cholesterol. For patients with moderate CV risk, initiate with 10 mg once daily.

How it should be taken : It comes as a tablet to take by mouth (orally). It is usually taken one to three times a day, with or without food. (Avoid excessive consumption (> 1 L/day) of grapefruit juice.

Special Instruction :

• Caution should be exercised patients with history of liver disease. • It may lead to rapid breakdown of skeletal muscle (rhabdomyolysis), severe infection, hypotension, major surgical trauma, uncontrolled seizures or severe metabolic, endocrine and electrolyte disorder. • Avoid drinking Alcohol otherwise it may result in liver failure. • This medication should be used with extreme caution in children younger than 10 years old and in those who have not reached puberty. Discontinue treatment if there is marked or persistent increase in serum-aminotransferase concentrations.

Side Effects :
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM:
Headache, dizziness, sleeplessness; depression.
GI
Nausea, flatulence, distortion of the sense of taste, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation.
EYE
Lens opacities; blurring of vision.
METABOLIC:
Serum transaminases and CPK elevations.
MUSCLE:
Muscle pain and muscle weakness.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Heartburn, hypersensitivity, sexual dysfunction, and upper respiratory symptoms.

Other Precautions :
Avoid changing the dose with out doctor's advice.

Storage Conditions :
Oral: Store at 5-30°C. Store it in airtight container and keep away from children.
