Why it is prescribed (Indications) : It causes increased glutathione synthesis in liver, which is required for the detoxifying action of liver.
When it is to be taken : Infective Hepatitis A, chronic active hepatitis, toxic metabolic hepatic damage, carbon tetrachloride poisoning, mushroom poisoning. As a suuportive treatment in cirrhosis and alcoholic liver disease.
How it should be taken : 70- 140 mg bid/tid
Special Instruction :
Contraindications: Hepatic encephalopathy, Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, obstructive jaundice.
Side Effects :
Safety not established in Pregnancy.Lactation: Safety not established.Elders: May be used.
