Generic Name : Melatonin
TradeName : Eternex,Meloset,Zytonin
Why it is prescribed (Indications) : It is a hormone secreted by the pineal gland which acts by mediating the circadian rhythm.It is therefore used in management of jet lag and other sleep disorders.It can also be used in the treatment of cluster headaches.
When it is to be taken : 3-5 mg given at bedtime.
How it should be taken : It is taken orally as tablets.
Special Instruction :
Patients taking Melatonin must be extremely careful while driving or operating machinery.
Side Effects :
Drowsiness,depression.
Other Precautions :
Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
Storage Conditions :
Store in a cool place out of reach of children.
