Generic Name : Mefloquine

TradeName : Confal,Facital,Mefax,Mefloc,Mefque

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : It is generally used as a second line treatment in chloroquine resistant falciparum malaria.It is effective against multi-drug resistant malaria.

When it is to be taken : The dose varies depending on its use for either treatment of malaria or its prophylaxis.

How it should be taken : It is taken orally as tablets.

Special Instruction :
To be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation,underweight children and in cardiac problems.Treatment should be started only after 12 hours from last dose of quinine or quinine related medication.Driving,piloting planes, and operating machinery are to be avoided.

Side Effects :
Gastrointestinal symptoms,visual and auditory disturbances,dizziness,fatigue.

Other Precautions :
Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to quinine and related compounds.

Storage Conditions :
Store in cool airtight place.
