Fenoprofen

Generic Name : Fenoprofen

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Fenoprofen relieves the pain, inflammation, swelling, and stiffness caused by certain types of arthritis. It also is used for fever and mild to moderate pain after surgery or childbirth.

When it is to be taken :
1. Fenoprofen is usually taken three or four times a day for arthritis or every four to six hours as needed for pain.
2. Follow the instruction on your prescription label carefully.
3. Although arthritis symptoms usually improve in a few days, you may have to take this drug regularly for two to three weeks before you feel it’s full effect.

How it should be taken : Fenoprofen comes in the form of capsules and tablets. Your prescription label tell you how much to take at each dose.

Special Instruction :
1. Fenoprofen can affect mental alertness and coordination. Do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery until you know how it affects you.
2. Take only the amount of medication prescribed. If you think that you need more to relieve your symptoms, contact your doctor.
3. Keep all appointments with your doctor and the laboratory. You may need blood tests.
4. If you have hearing or vision problems, you probably will have your eyes examined or your hearing tested.
5. If you forget to take a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if you remember a missed dose near the time you are to take the next dose, take only the regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose.

Side Effects :
1. Indigestion, nausea, vomiting, constipation. Take fenoprofen with milk, food, or antacids.
2. Skin rash. Contact your doctor.
3. Sleepinees, headache. Contact your doctor if these effects are severe.

Other Precautions :
1. Before you take fenoprofen, tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking, especially aspirin, anticoagulants such as warfarin, and steroids such as prednisone.
2. Do not take aspirin while taking fenoprofen unless your doctor directs you to do so.
3. If you ever had a bad reaction to asprin or other arthritis medications, tell your doctor before taking fenoprofen.
4. Tell your doctor if you ever had gastritis or bleeding from the stomach or rectum, ulcers, diverticulitis, kidney disease, or heart disease.
5. Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should inform their doctors.
6. Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.

Storage Conditions :
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of the reach of children.
