Why it is prescribed
(Indications) : It is a local anaesthetic which blocks nerve impulses, leading to loss of sensation of pain,temperature,touch and muscle tone.It is used in conjunction with analgesia during labour as a lumbar epidural block.

When it is to be taken : It is used during surgical procedures.

How it should be taken
: It is available as injection and administered as epidural or infiltration anaesthesia.

Special Instruction :
To be used with caution in hepatic disease,pregnancy and in children under 12.Toxicity increases with other drugs,so the doctor must be informed of any other medication.

Side Effects :
Central Nervous System symptoms like agitation and depression,and dizziness.

Other Precautions
:
Contraindicated in hypersensitivity,during lactation and in spinal anaesthesia under 18.

Storage Conditions :
To be stored under refridgeration.
