Generic Name : Aluminum Hydroxide and Magnesium Hydroxide

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide are antacids that are used together to treat and prevent ulcers and to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion, and stomach upsets. They combine with stomach acid and neutralize it.
When it is to be taken : When antacids are prescribed for ulcers, they are usually taken at least seven times a day.Ulcers are usually treated until they are healed or for four to six weeks. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully.Do not take antacids for more than one to two weeks without a doctor's supervision.

Special Instruction :
1. If you are taking this medication for an ulcer, be sure to follow the diet prescribed by your doctor.
2. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Take the remaining doses for that day at the regularly scheduled times.
Side Effects :
1. Chalky taste,diarrhea and constipation are seen frequently. Contact your doctor if the problem is severe.
2. Loss of appetite, unusual tiredness and muscle weakness are rarely seen.
Other Precautions :
1. Inform your doctor before taking this medication,if you have kidney disease.
2. Tell your doctor about any drugs you are taking before you take this medication. It may affect the way your body responds to certain drugs, especially tetracycline and ferrous sulfate (iron).
3. Drugs used for arthritis(aspirin and indomethacin), digoxin, isoniazid, pseudoephedrine and diazepam may also be affected.
Storage Conditions :
Keep this medication in the tightly closed container.Keep it out of reach of children. Store the container at room temperature.
