Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Acetazolamide is used to treat glaucoma and petitmal epilepsy.It reduces pressure in the eye. It is also used as a diuretic which cause a net loss of water in urine. Acetazolamide is also used in treating acute mountain sickness and to promote excretion of certai acidic drugs.It is also used to reduce the severity of symptoms like nausea,vomiting,dizziness,drowsiness and fatigue.

Special Instruction :
1. Take the exact amount of medication prescribed by your doctor.Follow the prescription carefully.
2. This drug may decrease alertness.Do not drive a car or operate any dangerous machinery.
3. Over dose can cause serious side efects.
Side Effects :
Nausea,vomiting,fever rashes,drowsiness,fatigue,bone marrow depression and acidosis are commonly seen. Take this medication either with food or milk.
Other Precautions :
It is contraindicated in liver disease. It is better to avoid this drug if you are allergic to sulfa drugs.
