Generic Name : Saquinavir

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication prescribed for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection in patients with or without acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) with other medication. It is a protease inhibitor and slows the spread of HIV in the body.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Lactation; hypersensitivity; severe liver damage.
When it is to be taken : HIV infection Combined with other antiretroviral: In patients more than 16 yr: 1 g twice daily with ritonavir. Take antiretroviral medications (ARVs) as soon as possible after exposure to HIV 1g twice daily with ritonavir and other antiretroviral and continue for 4 wk if tolerated.
How it should be taken : This medication available in the form of gelatin capsule, a tablet, and a soft gelatin capsule to be taken by mouth. The hard gelatin capsule and tablet are usually taken with ritonavir two times a day with a meal or up to 2 hours after a full meal. The soft gelatin capsule is usually taken three times a day with a meal or up to 2 hours after a meal.

*Caution need for pregnant women
, adolescents <16 yr; elderly; patients with history of liver or kidney damage; diabetes; group of genetic disorders; *It may increase triglyceride and lipid levels. *It may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar regularly.
Side Effects :
GI: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
, taste disturbance, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, increased appetite, excessive stomach gas. CNS: fatigue, sleep disturbances, headache, dizziness SKIN: Itching, and exacerbation of diabetes, in growing toenails and nail infection of the great toes, hypersensitivity. Blood System: Blood disorders; Irregular, prolonged heavy menstruation. Miscellaneous: Sexual dysfunction.
Other Precautions :
*It may cause dizziness or vision problem
. Do not drive a car, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous
Storage Conditions :
Store at 25°C. Keep in air tight container. Keep away from children.
