Why it is prescribed (Indications) : It is a Growth Hormone Inhibitor, which also reduces the release of pancreatic polypeptides.It is used for
1.Treatment of Acromegaly
2.Prevention of post-operative complications of pancreatic surgery.
3.Management of secretary neoplasms(tumours).

When it is to be taken : The dosage and duration of treatment vary according to the condition being treated.

How it should be taken : The drug is available in the form of injection which is given sub-cutaneously.

Special Instruction :
1.The blood sugar of diabetic patients
must be monitored as the requirement of insulin decreases during treatment.
2.The injection must be given between meals to avoid gastro-intestinal disturbances.

Side Effects :
Stinging and pain at site of injection,nausea,vomiting,flatulence,diarrhoea,gallstones.

Other Precautions :
Contra-indicated during lactation,and hypersensitivity to Octreotide.

Storage Conditions :
To be stored under refridgeration.
