Econazole

Generic Name : Econazole

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Econazole, an antifungal agent, is used to treat skin infections, athlete's foot, and jock itch.

When it is to be taken : Econazole is used once or twice a day, in the morning and evening. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully. Although symptoms usually improve within the first week or two, continue using econazole for as long as directed. Athlete’s foot often takes four to six weeks to cure; other infections usually take two weeks to cure.

How it should be taken : Econazole comes in the form of skin cream. Apply a sufficient amount to the affected area and rub it gently.

Special Instruction :
1. If symptoms of the infection worsen or continue after you finish the treatment, contact your doctor. Do not use other creams, lotions, ointments, or cosmetics on the treated area especially hydrocortisone, without consulting your doctor.
2. Keep econazole away from your eyes.
3. Each day, wash all towels and clothing that have come in contact with the infected area.
4. If you forget to apply a dose apply it as soon as you remember. However, if your remember the missed dose when it is time for your next scheduled dose, omit the missed dose. Do not apply a double dose.

Side Effects :
Although side effects from econazole are not common, they can occur. Skin irritation, burning, stinging, itching, and redness. If symptoms persist, contact your doctor.

Other Precautions :
Before using econazole, tell your doctor if your are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Storage Conditions :
Keep this medication out of the reach of children. Store it at room temperature, away from excess heat.
