Aspirin and Oxycodone

Generic Name : Aspirin and Oxycodone

TradeName : Codoxy, Percodan, Percodan-Demi

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This combination of drugs is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.

When it is to be taken : This medication is usually taken every six hours. Follow the instructions on your prescription label.This drug starts to take effect within 15 minutes and goes on working for three to six hours.

How it should be taken :
This medication comes in the form of tablets. Your prescription label tells you the amount to taken at each dose.

Special Instruction :
1. This drug can be habit-forming. Do not take it more often or for a longer period than your doctor tells you to and do not take more than the amount prescribed at each dose.
2. Do not increase your dose without consulting your doctor.
3. This medication may decrease mental alertness. Do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery until you know how it affects you.

Side Effects :
1. Although side effects from aspirin with oxycodone are not common, they can occur. Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, drowsiness and dizziness are common. Lie down for a while.
2. Take the drug with food or milk if you experience nausea or vomiting. If these effects continue, contact your doctor.
3. Bloody or black stools and ringing in the ears are rare. Contact your doctor.
4. Difficulty breathing, espeically in elderly patients
is common. Instruct family members or some other person who is likely to be nearby to call your doctor immediately if you have difficulty breathing or feel faint.

Other Precautions
:
1. Alcoholic beverages can add to the drowsiness and stomach irritation caused by this medication.
2. If you are allergic to codeine or aspirin, you should not take this medication.
3. Tell your doctor what other medications you are taking, particularly 'blood thinners' (e.g., warfarin), acetazolamide, corticosteroids, methotrexate, and medication for arthritis, gout, or diabetes. Do not take analgesics, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, antidepressants, sedatives, or any other medications unless your doctor tells you that you may.
4. Tell your doctors if you have asthma, bleeding problems, a history of ulcers, anemia, or gout.
5. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, inform your doctor before taking this medication. Do not allow anyone else to take your medication.

Storage Conditions :
1. Keep this medication in the container it came in and out of the reach of children.
2. Throw away any medication that smells strongly of vinegar.
