Why it is prescribed
(Indications) : It is a potent and quick acting antimalarial,used for treating chloroquine resistant falciparum malaria,including cerebral malaria.

When it is to be taken : Adult dose-80mg twice a day one day 1,followed by 80mg once a day for 4 days.Max dose-480mg Children-1.6mg/kg twice a day on day 1,follwed by same dose once daily for 5 days.Max dose-9.6mg/kg A 3 day regime is also used alternatively.

How it should be taken
: It is given intramuscularly.

Special Instruction :

To be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation.Other drugs should be given only with the doctor's knowledge as there may be interference with its effects.

Side Effects :
Mild gastrointestinal symptoms,dizziness,reduction in reticulocyte and leucocyte counts,bradycardia.

Other Precautions :

Contraindicated in hypersensitivity.

Storage Conditions :

To be stored under refridgeration.
