Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is recommended for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, Lou Gehrig disease) is placed on a ventilator or breathing machine, by delaying onset of ventilator dependence or tracheostomy
When it is to be taken : 50 mg orally every 12 hrs
How it should be taken : This medication available in the form of tablet to take by mouth, twice a day, every 12 hours.
Special Instruction :
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of allergies, blood disorders or anemia or kidney or liver disease, pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. *Cigarette smoking may decrease the effectiveness of this drug.
Side Effects :
CNS:
Dizziness, depression.
GI:
Upset stomach, diarrhea, loss of appetite.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Tiredness, muscle weakness, difficulty in breathing, fever,
Other Precautions :
To avoid liver damage, do not drink alcoholic beverages.
Storage Conditions :
Store at 25°C. Store it in air tight container.
