Nizatidine

Generic Name : Nizatidine

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Nizatidine decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach . Tis is used to treat and prevent the recurrence of certain gastrointestinal ulcers.

When it is to be taken : Nizatidine is usually taken once a day at bedtime or twice a day. Follow the instruction on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor to explain any part that you do not understand. Most ulcers heal within four weeks, but you may need to take nizatidine for up to eight weeks before complete healing occurs.

How it should be taken : Nizatidine comes in capsule form. Your prescription label tells you how much to take at each dose. Nizatideine may be taken with food. If your doctor instruct you to take an antacid, you may take it at the same time as nizatidine.

Special Instruction :
1. Nizatidine makes some people drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery until you know how it affects you.
2. Keep all appointments with your doctor so that your response to nizatidine can be checked.
3. If you have ulcers, do not smoke cigarettes. Smoking inhibits ulcer healing.
4. If you forget to take a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, take only the scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose.

Side Effects :
1.Drowsiness, sweating. If these problems are severe or persistent, contact your doctor.
2. Rash, difficulty breathing. Stop taking nizatidine and contact your doctor immediately.

Other Precautions :
1. Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding should inform their doctors.
2. Before taking nizatidine, tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking and if you have kidney or liver disease.
3. Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.

Storage Conditions :
Keep this medication in the container it cam in, closed, and out of the reach of children.
