Generic Name : IXABEPILONE

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is prescribed for breast cancer either alone or in combination with capecitabine. It is a microtubule inhibitor. It kills cancer cells.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Liver disease, caution need during Pregnancy and lactation.
When it is to be taken : Adults IV 40 mg/m 2 over 3 h every 3 wk. Patients with body surface area more than 2.2 m 2 should be calculated based on 2.2 m 2 .
How it should be taken : This medication available in the form of injection to be injected intravenously (into a vein) by healthcare provider. It is usually given once every 3 weeks.
Special Instruction :
*Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while using this medication.*It may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.*Monitor complete blood counts and liver function, may be performed while taking this medication. *Caution need for patients with history of diabetes; any condition that causes numbness, burning or tingling in your hands or feet; or heart disease.
Side Effects :
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM:
Confusion, difficulty in sleeping, dizziness, headache.
GI
Vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain
SKIN
Hair loss, numbness or burning, hives, rash.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Weight loss, watery eyes, difficulty tasting food, tiredness, faintness, chills, cough, sudden swelling, chest pain.
Other Precautions :
While taking this medication, use effective contraceptives to avoid pregnancy.
Storage Conditions :
Normally handled and stored by healthcare providers.
