Why it is prescribed (Indications) : It is a volatile anesthetic used in induction and maintenance of general anesthesia.It causes reversible CNS depression,depressed respiration,decreased blood pressure ,carciac rate and reduced coronary blood flow.
When it is to be taken : It is given along with oxygen or nitrous oxide to induce anesthesia.An increased amount is given to maintain anesthesia.
How it should be taken : It is available as a liquid which is administered as an inhalation.
Special Instruction :
To be used with caution in impaired cardiac or liver function and in early pregnancy.Interactions with other drugs is possible,so careful monitoring is required.
Side Effects :
Slowing of heart rate,lowered blood pressure,chills during recovery.
Other Precautions :
Contraindicated in obstetric surgery
