Why it is prescribed (Indications) : Dicyclomine is used to treat various stomach and intestinal problems such as irritable bowel syndrome.
When it is to be taken : Dicyclomine is usually taken four times a day. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully.
How it should be taken : Dicyclomine comes in the form of capsules, tablets, and oral liquid. Your prescription label tells you how much to take at each dose. Dilute the oral liquid with an equal volume of water just before taking the dose.
Special Instruction :
1. Dicyclomine makes some people drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate dangerous machinery until you know how this drug affects you.
2. If you forget to take a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. Take any remaining doses for that day at evenly spaced intervals. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Side Effects :
1. Dry mouth. Suck sugarless hard candies.
2. Dizziness, nervousness, drowsiness, difficulty sleeping, blurred vision, fast pulse, difficulty urinating, nausea, constipation, difficulty breathing. Contact your doctor if these effects persist or become severe.
Other Precautions :
1. Be sure your doctor knows your entire medical history. Dicyclomine should not be taken by some people with glaucoma, ulcerative colitis, prostate trouble, or problems of passing urine.
2. Dicyclomine can increase the risk of heatstroke. Avoid being outside on hot days as much as possible and avoid unusually warm places such as steamrooms and very hot baths.
3. Tell your doctor about any prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking. Certain medications, such as antacids, should not be taken at the same time as Dicyclomine. Take Dicyclomine one hour before or two hours after antacids.
4. Do not take Dicyclomine for sour stomach, stomach ache due to gas, or any problem other than the one for which it was specifically prescribed.
Storage Conditions :
1. Keep this medication in the container it came in and out of the reach of children.
2. Protect it from light and heat.
