Generic Name : Cefotaxime

TradeName : Bestax, biotax, blutax, c-tax, cefantral, cefolcil, claforan, desatax, evacet, haltax, intax, lyforan, novatax, notaxin.

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : They act by inhibiting bacterial cell wall sysbthesis and are bactericidal.Also the autolytic enzymes in the cell wall may be activated leading to bacterial death.After administration,they are distributed throughout the body fluids.Thet are excreated by kidneys.

When it is to be taken
: The medication is given as 12g IM or IV every 12 hours.Maximum 12 grams daily in 3 to 4 doses.In the case of gonorrhoea give 0.5-1 g IM OD.the drugs onset of action is within hours.The duration of action is for 8-12 hours.

How it should be taken
: The medication comes in the form of IV fluids.

Special Instruction :
Inform your doctor if you have allergic to cephalosporins,if you have renal or hepatic impairement

Side Effects
:
Skin rash,anaphylaxis,nausea are the common side effects of this drug.

Other Precautions
:
Contraindicated in the case of pregnancy,lactation and old age.

Storage Conditions :
Store at 15-30 degree celsius.
