Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This medication is prescribed for the treatment of ovarian cancer. It contains platinum; stops the growth of cancer cells.
When it is not to be taken (Contraindications) : Previous allergy; pregnancy, lactation; allergy to other platinum compounds; severe bone marrow depression; significant bleeding, aluminum containing needles and IV sets.
When it is to be taken : IV As single agent in treatment-naive patients: 400 mg/m2; as single agent in previously treated patients: 360 mg/m2; With cyclophosphamide in treatment-naive patients: 300 mg/m2. Doses to be given not more frequently than every 4 week. Adjust subsequent doses based on nadir of WBC and platelet counts

Special Instruction :
*Give information to your doctor about platinum compound intakes. *Harmful to new born babies. It may cause diminished kidney function; affects nervous system; liver function impairment. *Caution need while using in elderly patients, and during breast feeding.
Side Effects :
GI:
Loss of appetite, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, nausea and vomiting, mouth blistering.
SKIN:
Thinned or brittle hair.
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM:
Fatigue, dizziness,
MISCELLANEOUS:
Red urine, black or tarry tools, fever, chills, shortness of breath, swelling of ankles, abnormal sounds from outside.
Other Precautions :
Avoid vaccination while taking this medication.
Storage Conditions :
Intravenous: Store at 25°C.
