Generic Name : Amphotericin B

TradeName : Amfotex,Fungizone,Mycol

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : It is an antifungal used in the treatment of oral candidiasis,severe systemic fungal infections, severe mengingitis,and candiduria.

When it is to be taken : It is given daily or on alternate days depending on the condition.In meningitis the dosage is increased gradually and given 2-4 times a week.

How it should be taken : It can be given as a suspension for oral fungal infections to be retained in the mouth for a while before swallowing,as lozenges,as IV infusion or as bladder irrigation.

Special Instruction :
Use with caution in renal or hepatic impairment.Other drugs may be taken only with the knowledge of the doctor as interactions may take place.

Side Effects :
Gastrointestinal symptoms,headache,rash,dermatitis and sometimes angioedema and allergic reactions.

Other Precautions :
Contraindicated in hypersensitivity,pregnancy and lactation.

Store as per instructions.
