Generic Name : Amlodipine

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : This drug belongs to calcium channel blockers.they act by blocking the transport of calcium to smooth muscle cells linning the coronary arteries and hence prevent the chest pain.

When it is to be taken : The medication is taken orally by mouth.start the dosage with 2.5 mgs and gradually increase to 5 and 10 mgs.can be taken with or without food.

How it should be taken : The medication comes in the form of 2.5,5 and 10 mgs tablets.

Special Instruction :
The drug is metabolised in the liver and the dosage has to be lowered in the case of patients with liver dysfunction.

Side Effects :
Headache and edema are the common side effects of this drug.

Other Precautions :
Contraindicated in the case of pregnancy and lactation.

Storage Conditions :
Store at room tempearture in a air tight container.
