Generic Name : Rivastigmine

Why it is prescribed (Indications) : It is a reversible non-competitive inhibitor of acetylcholinestrace.

When it is to be taken : Mild to moderate dementia in Alzheimers disease.

How it should be taken : Adults: Initially 1.5 mg twice daily;increased at intervals of atleast 2 weeks, according to response and tolerance in steps of 1.5 mg twice daily. Usual range 3-6 mg twice daily. Max dose 6 mg twice daily. Children and upto 18 years: Not recommended.

Special Instruction :
Contraindiactions: Pregnancy

Side Effects :
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dyspepsia, anorexia, headache, drowsiness, weight loss, asthenia. Agitation, confusion, depression, sweating. Gastrointestinal haemorrhage. Potential for baldder outflow obstruction.

Other Precautions :
Renal impairment, mild to moderate hepatic impairment. Sick sinus syndrome, conduction abnormalities. Asthma, COPD.

Storage Conditions
:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.
